Cities across the world are having to react to growing populations and the inevitable environmental effects. London is a hot bed of pollution, with Euston Road notorious for dangerous levels of Nnitrogen dioxide emitting from our jam-packed roads.

Sadiq Khan rightly made pollution in London one of his top priorities and pledged £1 million to create five new ‘Low Emission Neighbourhoods’ – areas committed to air quality initiatives, green interventions and plans to reduce congestion. Euston Town was delighted to be one of the five successful applicants.

The Euston Green Link connects Euston Station and Regents Park, offering a lower-exposure route that avoids Euston Road and instead meanders through a fascinating independent business community with aromatic Indian cuisine, pubs, lunch time deals and other amenities. Our project will inject the route with leafy green infrastructure, public art initiatives and way-finding.

With the onset of HS2 developments, Euston faces many years under construction with hoardings, building sites and vehicles cluttering the streets. Our remit as a BID is to represent the interests of businesses in Euston as the area faces enormous changes. We have three areas of interest that we believe helps us do this:

Creating a fantastic opportunity for Euston from the HS2 project

Reacting to an air quality emergency in the area

Uncovering, protecting and promoting Euston’s true identity

Objectives of the project:

Health & Wellbeing

To create a public realm and alternative walking route that has a positive impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of all stakeholders. The project has been developed in line with the Mayor’s ‘Healthy High Streets’ strategy.

Drummond Street

To help independent Drummond Street traders not just survive but thrive in the new environment HS2 has created. To allow their success create an example of how to preserve local high streets in the face of major development.

Inspire Conversation

To facilitate open discussion about the chronic environmental issues facing London and indeed the world.

Introducing… Regents Park

To change perceptions that Regents Park is not a green space for everybody, because it is. And as we lose more green space and mature trees, it becomes a vital asset.

Innovate

To help influence the design of future green space and implementation of green infrastructure.
